Chris Alvord

Chris has been a senior executive in consulting and technology businesses for 25+ years in the Government, Telecom, Energy and Finance sectors.

In continuity planning, he has designed an industry-leading Web-based BCM software package, led numerous large-scale projects, been a Certified Teacher, and has achieved CBCP and MBCI status with DRI International and the Business Continuity Institute.  Mr. Alvord co-developed an extensive continuity planning curriculum and was named an Adjunct Professor at NYU.

He has published numerous articles in continuity planning, including pieces in New European Economy, CEO Today, FST Europe, Continuity Insights, and DRJ Magazine.  Conference presentations include DRJ, CPM, CI, ACP, NEDRIX, and for several ACP chapters. He has been widely quoted in the media, including at CNN Money, Fox Business, CIO Online, Computerworld, Network World, Infoworld, IT World and Market Watch.

Mr. Alvord has a BA from Harvard College, MBA from Harvard Business School, and has done doctoral course work at Virginia Tech.

Johnson Awe
Johnson B. Awe

Johnson B. Awe has been for the past nine years, the Head of Emergency and Business Continuity management at Petroleum Development Oman LLC (PDO), based in Muscat, Oman. Prior to joining PDO, he worked as Corporate HSE Manager in oil and gas Service Company; HSE Manager in a seismic exploration company among many others. In his present role, he is responsible for the overall emergency and business continuity management for PDO.

Johnson is an excellent team player and a self-motivated professional with over 26 years diverse field experience in a multinationals' setting that cuts across HSE, emergency/disaster and business continuity management, IT disaster recovery, fire detection/alarm systems, engineering as well as wider risk management in the oil & gas industry and others. His key achievements included: creating the first business continuity plan for PDO from scratch; continuing the maintenance of the BCMS – BIA/BCP review; conducting over three live full-scale BC/IT DR exercises – to ascertain the effectiveness and robustness of the BCMS; conducting over 20 in-house BC training and awareness sessions for the BC team members; embedding business continuity management into the organisational culture of PDO to increase overall company resilience; identifying, evaluating, selecting and obtaining final approval for a BC fallback site; a member of the project team for the selection, evaluation and building of the first IT disaster recovery offsite mobile modular data centre, the first in Oman; Lead implementer in the first ISO-27001 certification process of the company information security management system. Michael J. Fagel, Ph.D., CEM
Michael Fagel, Ph.D., CEM, has had a remarkable career in emergency management, a career that has spanned more than 32 years and has taken him from serving as a volunteer with the Aurora Illinois Civil Defense Agency during the Cold War to ground zero following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

 Between then and now, Dr. Fagel has served in various capacities within the American Red Cross, the Aurora Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA),various federal agencies and with Department of Defense contractors.

He also has more than 25 years experience as an instructor at numerous colleges and universities.

Larry is a self confessed business continuity bigot with over 20 years in business continuity, disaster recovery and crisis management planning. Larry holds DRII and BCI certifications and has served on the DRII Certification Commission. 

Larry has held contingency planning positions as Business Continuity Program Manager for a major international company responsible for business continuity for the corporate and subsidiaries in the U. S., the U.K., and Canada, and as the Business Continuity Program Manager for a major aerospace company.

In his work life prior to contingency planning, Larry started in the information technology field as a programmer and has held positions as Programmer, Systems Analyst, Programming Manager, Manager of Systems and Programming, Manager of Manufacturing Systems and Director of MIS (CIO).

John has over 30 years of Business Continuity and Risk Management leadership experience and is widely regarded as an early and current visionary in enterprise Business Continuity, Crisis Management and Disaster Recovery. John was awarded the Business Continuity Institute's first ever North American Lifetime Achievement Award and has been awarded an honorary FBCI (Fellow designation) certification from BCI based on his experience and contributions to the industry.

Over his Continuity Industry career, John has had leadership roles with Chi/Cor Information Management, Comdisco Continuity Services, IBM's BCRS Business Unit and Hewlett Packard's Americas Business Continuity Division. John joined Fusion in the fall of 2005 seeking to drive yet another industry transformation.

Today, John is very active in leading innovative consulting engagements for large enterprise organizations, and also contributing to the industry by serving on the Executive Advisory Board of Disaster Recovery Journal and the Editorial Advisory Boards for Continuity Insights and the Disaster Resource Guide. Andrew Lee

Andrew is the Director of DRBCM Associates Pte Ltd, a company that specializes in offering training and consultancy services in BCM related subjects.

Prior to April 2007, he was the regional head of Business Continuity Management in Deutsche Bank supervising the program in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region. Over the 8-1/2 years, he had helped to build a team of 12 full-time BCM staff based in over 5 countries.

Out of a total of over 28 years in the banking industry, he spent close to 10 years in the area of business continuity management and another 17 years in the area of global markets trading.

He was the Principal Trainer for DRI Singapore for two years between 2008 and 2009 tasked with preparing participants for their BCM qualifying examinations leading up to professional certification with Disaster Recovery Institute International.

Since January 2010, he took on the role of Asia Campus Director for The ICOR University and its main trainer in the Asia Pacific region in BCM and crisis management and communications subjects. He is an ISO 22301 Lead Auditor.

He was one of the mentors with the Singapore Business Federation in the National BCM Program and had helped a number of organizations implement their programs and leading them through third-party BCM readiness certification.

He is also a regular speaker at BCM related conferences and workshops sharing his experiences with the industry.

With more than 20 years of Business Continuity experience, ranging from global large-scale precision manufacturing to small, stand-alone single site operations, Howard has an extensive and unique background in merging business continuity into continuous operations.

He is a Certified Organizational Resilience Manager. Howard is a Certified Recovery Planner from the University of Richmond, VA as well as a Certified Business Manager with the Association of Professional in business Management, Chicago, IL while maintaining a CBCP from DRII.

He is a Charter Member of ICOR and is currently an instructor and training partner with ICOR. Currently, as a DHS/FEMA DAE Community Recovery Specialist, he works with communities having received federal disaster declarations. Al is the Consulting Director for Fairchild Consulting focused on business resilience.  He has over 25 years of consulting and information technology experience.   Prior to Fairchild, Al served as a senior consultant with SunGard Availability Services and Strohl Systems.  Al's consulting career started with Zurich Insurance Group were he was actively involved in risk assessments, business impact analyses, continuity strategy development and business continuity plan implementation and testing.  He has authored numerous industry magazine articles and conducted numerous training sessions on a variety of risk management and business continuity topics.  He has been a featured international speaker in a variety of forums.

He has earned the MBCP designation (Master Business Continuity Planner).  Al is also a Certified Organizational Resiliency Manager and Supply Chain Risk Associate through the International Consortium of Organization Resilience (ICOR) as well as a Member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI).  He has recently been appointed to the ICOR Governing Board.  He has earned the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM) designations as well as being an LDRPS 10 Certified Software Consultant (LCSC).  Al has also been recognized by the State of Delaware for Outstanding Contributions to their annual exercise program.
