This workshop will begin by providing you with an understanding of the different types of plans each organization should have in place in order to be resilient. It will then focus on specifically on developing an Incident Response Plan and on how to integrate business continuity procedures with incident response procedures. In addition, the course will review the Incident Command System and provide you with the latest information on public/private partnerships.
Developing a BCM Response is part of the Essentials of Business Continuity Management series offered by ICOR. Completion of the Essentials series will fulfill the educational component of certification by ICOR as a Certified Organizational Resilience Professional (CORP).
Attendees earn 1.4 CEUs of education credit for certification by ICOR and 16 CEPs of continuing education credit for DRII and BCI

James Nelson is the President of Business Continuity Services, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in providing business continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis management training and consulting. While Jim served as the Lead Instructor for DRI International from 2002-2006, BCS developed DRII’s BCLE curriculum. Jim currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for The International Consortium for Organizational Resilience (ICOR), as the Education Director of the Northern Illinois Chapter of Association of Contingency Planners, (ACP), is a member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), and is certified by DRII as a Master Business Continuity Professional.

Synopsis / Course Description:
Part of any resiliency/continuity plan is to do an assessment and to prepare for the probability of any type of event that may impact a work organization. This program will provide attendees with a comprehensive paradigm for looking at the total organization and its ability to mitigate the probability of occurrence as well as the impact of a wide array of crises.
This two-day course covers the following topics:
1. Assessing the organizational culture
2. Designing your OCP team
3. Communication: it is not what you say, but how you say it, when, to whom, how often and for how long.
4. Responsive leadership at critical moments
5. How to hold stakeholders: Who they are and how to keep them from taking their stakes and leaving during crises.
6. Brand damage
7. No organization is an island: Coordinating with Emergency Management
8. Legal and liability issues in the workplace as business disruptions and how to protect the company
9. Table top drills and group exercises
Organizational Crisis Preparedness was developed by Gerald Lewis Ph.D & Associates, and is certified by ICOR.

Facilitator:
Dr. Lewis, an international consultant, has worked with government agencies, healthcare facilities, educational institutions and private businesses on a wide range of work, behavioral health and organizational issues. His focus is facilitating organizational recovery and resiliency with the emphasis on “people-recovery.”
He has authored numerous articles and three books: Critical Incident Stress and Trauma in the Workplace (1994) and Workplace Hostility: Myth & Reality (co-author, 1998), Organizational Crisis Management: The Human Factor (2006). Organizational Crisis Management: The Human Factor is included as part of this course.
