Description

The discipline of technical infrastructure addresses the need for organizations of all kinds to protect their technology and telecommunication systems and to minimize the impact of disruptions. Technical infrastructure includes ensuring data protection, availability, privacy issues and security concerns for electronic data. It also incorporates resilient technical design and architecture, protection and controls, equipment selection, capacity planning, technical infrastructure, telecommunications sizing and connectivity, software, applications, utilities and technical tools, location and layers of protections from physical, human error, human malicious intent and cyber security.
Technical infrastructure also looks at the management of documents, records, and assets by addressing the challenges of taking control of the storage environments by managing demand and optimizing supply. For an organization to be resilient it must understand the nature of the information it is storing and the value the information has to the organization. This information helps the organization to make the right choices about where and how to storage their data.

The discipline of Technical Infrastructure addresses the following elements:
1. Information Systems Auditing
2. Information Systems Security
3. Network Security
4. Systems Analysis and Design
5. Management of a Records Management Program
6. Records Creation and Use
7. Active & Inactive Records Systems
8. Records Appraisal, Retention and Disposition
9. Records Protection
10. Records and Information Management Technology
